Embark on an intriguing journey through time as we unveil the remarkable story of Palazzo Medici. Nestled within these walls, where we curate 8 exquisite apartments, lies a history waiting to be discovered. Immerse yourself in the past and present, as we reveal the captivating tales behind the frescoes and columns that now grace our guests’ experience.

Unraveling the Past: The Untold Saga of Palazzo Medici's Roots

Del Pugliese Era:
In the 14th century, eight modest Serragli-owned houses graced this precinct. One dwelling, in the early 15th century, found itself under the Del Pugliese name. Then, in 1428, this family melded the dwellings into one entity, marking the first keystones of our narrative. Patience will unveil when this origin sprouted.

The Feroni Interlude:
Wending through various hands in 1769 this building became the property of the opulent Marquis Giuseppe Francesco Feroni. This period saw the fusion of new lands along Borgo San Frediano, with 18th-century facades materializing on the upper floors. The frescoes and columns you now witness found their genesis here. Post the 1783 suppression of San Frediano’s church and monastery, Marquis Ubaldo Francesco Feroni broadened the dominion, fanning out to Piazza del Carmine. Borgo San Frediano embraced a new wing, and facades met innovation. This crescendo of transformation not only enlarged the estate, but also magnified its grandeur.

Magnani Momentum:
A gradual erosion of wealth set the stage for change. As the 18th century neared its close, the Magnani family of Pescia, propelled by thriving paper mills, took the reins of the palace. Their substantial investment infused new life, elevating the palace to a focal point in Florence’s landscape. Then, in 1856, inheritance bestowed the palace upon the Amerighi family, who retained possession until World War I’s conclusion. Subsequent ownership fragments were held by antique dealer Salvatore Romano (1939) and his successors. In these intervening years, amidst the upheaval of world wars, the building underwent transformations, evolving into multiple apartments that culminated in our iconic ‘Palazzo Medici.’ This very name pays homage to Florence’s illustrious dynasty. Residing on this side of the city, the Medici family left an indelible mark, their legacy furthered by the famed ‘Pitti palace,’ shaping the area’s identity.

During the 18th century, a sweeping wave of Neo-Classicism swept across Europe, profoundly influencing art and architecture. This movement sought to revive the aesthetics of ancient Greece and Rome, celebrating harmony, symmetry, and the ideals of antiquity (such as nature).

It’s within this Neo-Classical surge that our building’s transformation took place, resulting in the prominent columns that you will find in the internal courtyard.

Columns, reminiscent of classical temples, were a hallmark of this era, embodying ideals of order and grandeur. Our Palazzo Medici, amidst this revival, embraced these columns as symbols of enduring strength and artistic reverence for history.

Within our office, situated on the ground floor of the Palazzo Medici, an exquisite showcase of artistry awaits. Here, the columns stand adorned with intricate natural motifs, inviting you to step into a realm where the elements come to life.

One room in particular is a maritime marvel, an ode to the sea itself. As you enter, your gaze is drawn to a remarkable partial column that has been masterfully transformed. Carved in it you’ll find what we think could be Neptune, the god of the sea. Other columns in the same room are sculpted with fish.

Venturing further, you’ll encounter a chamber that pays tribute to the vibrant essence of spring or the serene countryside. Indeed, both floral and plant-inspired elements are intricately carved into the pietra serena. Each detail, meticulously crafted, speaks to the beauty and renewal of the natural world. Here, our commitment to preserving the past while embracing the present is vividly on display, echoing the harmony found in the Neo-Classical ideals that shaped our grand Palazzo Medici.
